Dental Consultations

A dental consultation is a non-invasive visit. A dental consultation usually consists of:
- Full mouth examination, which includes an exam of your existing fillings/dental treatment, exam of your gum health and actively looking for decay and/or other problems
- X-rays. These diagnostic images will give more information about the health and structure of your teeth, jaws, and bones, and aid in tooth restoration.
- Conversation about your dental goals and discuss your treatment plan, if any treatment is needed.
Regular visits to your dentist is one of the  key oral health messages to help maintain good oral hygiene and a healthy mouth.

We take great pride in the quality of our dentistry and want to make your visits a pleasant experience.
Your dentist will provide you with the full range of dentistry in the practice or by referral in special cases.

- Bridges
- Dentures
- Extractions
During your appointments your dentist will assist you in finding the right option for you.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry is generally used to refer to any dental work that improves the appearance of teeth, gums and/or bite. It primarily focuses on improvement in dental aesthetics in colour, position, shape, size, alignment and overall smile appearance.
This include:
- Adult orthodontic treatment, traditional & Invisalign
- Dental Implants
- Crown and Bridge restorations
- Veneers
- Tooth Whitening
- Composite bonding
Please take a look below for more details on cosmetic treatment options.

Restorations

Restorations are the various ways your dentist can replace or restore missing teeth or missing parts of the tooth structure. Tooth structure can be missing due to decay, deterioration (weakening) of a previously placed restoration, or fracture of a tooth.
At your appointment your dentist will explain options and discuss your treatment plan. Do not hesitate to ask your dentist questions about your treatment. Various options are available (in accourdance to your need):
- Fillings; Composite or Amalgam
- Crowns
- Bridges
- Veneers
- Dentures
- Implants

Periodontal Treatment

Healthy gums are very important for ensuring you have a healthy mouth. Gingivitis is when the gums are inflamed, red and swollen, often the swollen gums bleed when they are brushed during cleaning. Long standing gingivitis can turn into periodontal (gum) disease.
Your dentist will do a thorough examination including measuring between the gum and tooth to see if there is any sign of periodontal disease.
If treatment is needed, it can be completed by your dentist or in complex cases you can be referred to Mrs Zelda Wiese who has special interests in clinical Periodontology.

Dental Implants

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is placed into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge.
Dental implants may be an option for people who have lost a tooth or teeth due to gum disease, an injury, or some other reason.
If you are interested in implant options please discuss this with your dentist and if it is a viable option they will refer you for a consultation. The consultation is an opportunity to collect information in order to give you an estimate and treatment plan.

Root Canal Treatment

Why is root canal treatment necessary? Decay or injury can destroy the living pulp.
Dead pulp is more prone to infection leading to abscess and tooth-ache.
The benefits of root canal treatment:
- Relieve pain
- Avoid permanent loss of teeth
- Avoid infection spreading beyond the tooth
- Retreatment or apicectomy is possible if infection recurs.
Root canal treatment is carried out by your dentist over two or more appointments. Your dentist may refer you to Ms Joana Cacoilo (within the practice) who has special interests in root canal treatment OR your dentist may refer to a specialist in root canal treatment (endodontist) if the work is particularly complex.

Dentures

Dentures are removable replacements for your teeth, designed to look and function like your own natural teeth and surrounding gum tissues.
Modern-day dentures can look very realistic, natural and feel comfortable.
Dentures are generally fabricated from acrylic resins. However, with advances in modern cosmetic dentistry, there are a wide variety of materials available for dentures, including chrome (metal framed) dentures and the latest flexible cosmetic dentures.

All types of dentures have the ability to bring back your smile and confidence.

Dental Care for Children

It's very important that your child's first visit to the dentist be a positive experience.
Remember that if you are anxious then this is likely to influence your child. We recommend that you tell your children about the visit in advance, however do not go into too much detail.
Explain to your child the positive effects of a visit to the dentist, the importance of maintaining healthy teeth, gums and that the dentist's job is to help them achieve this.
The appointments will always be taken at their pace and our amazing team will make them feel as comfortable as possible.

Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening uses bleaching methods to lighten the colour of your natural teeth. You may want to whiten your teeth if they’ve lost their whiteness overtime, or because of smoking or stains from food and drink.
The dentist will take an impression of your teeth to make a mouthguard and tell you how to use it with a bleaching gel. Then, using your mouthguard at home, you regularly apply the gel for a specified period of time over 2 to 4 weeks.
If you are interested in whitening please discuss these with your dentist or call for a consultation.

Oral Health Sessions

An oral health educator has an important and valuable role within a dental practice. They promote good oral health care and work with patients to help prevent oral disease.
Our sessions provide information about
- Tooth brushing techniques
- How to use floss and inter dental brushing
- Advise for children to help stop tooth decay
- Effects of smoking and alcohol consumption
- Oral health advise during pregnancy
If you are interested please speak with your dentist for further information.

Surgical Treatment

Surgical tooth extraction is a tooth removal procedure in which surgical access is required to completely remove a tooth. The procedure is more complex than a normal extraction.

Adult Orthodontics

Orthodontics is a speciality discipline of dentistry that focuses on alignment of the teeth and jaws to improve a person’s smile and oral health. Crooked teeth that do not fit together correctly are harder to keep clean and are at risk for tooth decay and gum disease.
At our practice we offer Damon braces for adult patients. If you are interested in having braces, please speak with your dentist or contact our reception team to book a consultation.

Invisalign

Invisalign is a type of orthodontic treatment that helps to straighten teeth without the use of the typical metal braces. Invisalign involves wearing a series of custom-made clear plastic aligners that help move your teeth into a straight position.
Ms Joana Cacoilo provides 'Invisalign Go' at both our practices.
'Invisalign Go' has all the great features of Invisalign, but it’s been specially created to treat simpler cases. The treatment is essentially the same; you’ll just need fewer aligners to move your teeth into the desired position.
If you are interested in booking a consultation with Ms Cacoilo, please contact our reception staff to book an appointment.

Prosthodontics

Why would you need to see a prosthodontist?
The term “prostho” means replacement and “dontist” means dealing with teeth.
C.Sharma, who has a special interest in prosthodontics treats dental and facial problems that involve restoring missing teeth/tooth and jaw structures.
A prosthodontist is highly trained in cosmetics, crowns, bridges and dentures. Prosthodontists are extensively trained in state-of-the-art techniques and procedures for treating complex dental conditions and restoring optimum function and aesthetics.
Please ask you dentist for further information.
